Faculty, Math Summer Camp

Multiple Locations · Seasonal

About The Position

We are seeking passionate and energetic math faculty to help us inspire and teach mathematically talented middle school students. Faculty design and lead engaging courses that allow students to experience the joy of mathematical discovery. If you have a love of math and a talent for inspiring curiosity, creativity, and deep thinking in young learners, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact.

For Summer 2026, we will host camps at two locations: Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA, and William Peace University in Raleigh, NC. Faculty roles require a minimum commitment of one week, though we prioritize candidates who can stay for a full two-week session.

What You'll Do

  • Design and teach one Topics Course per week. These courses meet for eight 75-minute sessions over five days and are designed to foster exploration and allow students to dive deeply into an advanced mathematical topic. Each course includes approximately 15 students and is supported by one Learning Assistant.
  • Participate in Open Math Time at least two evenings per week. Engage with students each evening through puzzles, hands-on activities, small-group explorations, problem stations, or informal math conversations.
  • Contribute to Morning Assembly. At least once during your stay, serve as the assembly speaker by giving an interactive math talk or leading an all-camp activity.
  • Collaborate with your Learning Assistant. Meet regularly to provide mentorship, discuss your course and students, and identify meaningful opportunities for the Learning Assistant to take the lead and build their teaching skills.
  • Engage with students during lunch. Sit with students at lunch each academic day to build relationships and support our community-centered culture.
  • Write student notes. At the end of each week, write a brief note about each student in your class to support their individualized end-of-camp letter.
  • Participate in camp life and community. Join other camp activities to connect with students and staff and contribute to NMC’s positive, joyful camp culture.

What We're Looking For

Experience & Background

  • Advanced degree in mathematics or a closely related field (PhD preferred).
  • Prior experience teaching advanced middle school students is a plus, but is not required—your Academic Director will provide support and guidance to help you adapt your teaching and course material to this age group.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong content knowledge in the mathematical areas you plan to teach.
  • Experience with active or inquiry-based teaching approaches.
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and a genuine excitement for working with young students.
  • A passion for teaching and a talent for making deep mathematical concepts both accessible and exciting.
